11 Golf Digest editors reveal their GHIN Handicap Rewinds—and the best tips that worked for them – Australian Golf Digest

It’s that time of the year again.

The USGA officially released its GHIN Rewind feature in the GHIN app this week, which, a bit like its inspiration Spotify Wrapped, has a breezy look back at your 2024 season.

It’s a fantastic feature, and always informative in some way.

So, like we did last year, we asked a few of our Golf Digest staff to share theirs.

Let’s start with mine…

As you can see, my handicap stayed essentially the same from start to finish. The slightly frustrating thing, though, was the journey it took to get there. I started the season well (notice my best score of the year was in January), quickly dropped to a 0.4, then slowly bled my way back up to a 0.9 after some frustrating ballstriking woes.

Tip that helped: Feeling like I turn and shake somebody’s hand on my takeaway. I tend to move toward the ground on the takeaway, which can cause my right arm to stay high, causing me to hit chunks. The turn-and-shake feeling helps me keep my height and make a nice, big turn. — Luke Kerr-Dineen

Tip that helped: A putting tip from PGA Tour player Matt Wallace, who noticed my tempo was too slow. Focused on speeding up the backstroke and boom, your boy turned into Loren Roberts. — Joel Beall

Tip that helped: Over-emphasizing my hip turn at address before swinging, mostly with driver/woods, to allow for a better feel so my hands and the club move more easily and more on plane through impact. — Patrick Andrews

Tip that helped: My game changed for the better in 2023 when I shortened my backswing, and in 2024 I had the best year of my life (and the best score—75) by focusing on a slower tempo and a slight grip change to counteract a tendency to close the clubface and over-draw. A simple chipping and pitching lesson, focusing on starting the swing with my upper body rather than hands, hugely improved my short game. This year, we learn to putt, and single digits are next. — Shane Ryan

Tip that helped: Don’t focus on making a backswing with your arms, turn with your body. — Steve Hennessey
