The one thing I never knew about going to the Australian Open as a parent

Heading off to the Australian Open is one of the most exciting dates on the calendar, between watching the Aussies on court, to exploring the bars and food options, there’s just so much to do and see.

It’s also one of the most family-friendly days out, and has completely flown under the radar for me – until now.

Whether your kids are three or 10, there’s plenty to keep them entertained across the day: Introducing the AO Ballpark.

This year the AO Ballpark will launch on Saturday January 11, running throughout the tournament and open from when the gates open until 7pm.

For the little ones who need to burn off some energy, there’s the Emirates Explorers & Little Travellers obstacle course which brings all of the excitement of travelling to life.

The Hot Shots HQ is back and bigger than ever with three speed serves, to measure how fast you can whack a tennis ball, three mini tennis courts and a skills garden of tennis skills for young fans to show off their talents.

But we all know when it comes to keeping kids busy – and happy – that sometimes you need to pull out the big guns and in 2025 there’s going to be daily stage shows with cartoon characters like Peppa Pig, PJ Masks, Octonauts and more.

Oh, and then there’s the waterslide, featuring four lanes and two heights, you’ll be hard pressed to drag the kids away from it.

So, as someone who’s only recently started to search for the kind of activities that’ll keep everyone in the family happy on a day out, this time the Australian Open is at the top of our list.
