Emergency services rushed to the scene, Shattock was sent to Gold Coast University Hospital and placed in an induced coma.

Carlton coach Michael Voss, who captained Shattock during their time at the Brisbane Lions, paid the tributes.

“I can’t believe it … it’s terrible at any time but just before Christmas is even worse. Our prayers are with him and his family,” Voss said.

The club also released a statement describing Shattock as “dearly loved” and “a true Labrador person”.

“On behalf of the Labrador Australian Football Club, we send our thoughts, love, and prayers to the Shattock family during this challenging time,” said in the statement.

“His passion for our club is unmatched, and his presence is deeply valued. Our thoughts are with Aaron’s family, and we kindly ask that their privacy be respected during this difficult time.”

Shattock played 68 AFL games, 57 with Brisbane from 2000 to 2004 and 11 with Port Adelaide before retiring in 2006.

His career highlights include starting on the bench in Brisbane’s iconic 2002 Grand Final victory over Collingwood.

Local MP Cameron Caldwell also paid tribute.

“My thoughts and prayers are with Shatts for a full and speedy recovery and with his family during this time,” Caldwell said.
