Max Homa claps back at New York sports radio legend Mike Francesa for his TGL take – Australian Golf Digest

TGL’s opening night was generally well-received, but there was famed talking head who was NOT a fan. And if you know anything about him, you won’t be surprised.

Mike Francesa is a New York sports radio legend. Heck, he’s just a sports radio legend. The guy—along with our pal Christopher Russo—is basically credited for inventing sports talk radio with the “Mike and the Mad Dog” show that ran for nearly two decades on WFAN. But Francesa also happens to be one of the great curmudgeons of his time.

Enter Max Homa, one of TGL’s stars and an avid sports fan. Homa wasn’t involved in Tuesday’s match between New York Golf Club and Bay Golf Club, but he was on Twitter providing his always entertaining thoughts all day. And with New York getting smoked, he tweeted about Francesa.

It was a fair assumption that Francesa was tuned in, especially given that Steve Cohen’s other team was playing on ESPN—and that he wouldn’t like what he was seeing. Turns out, Homa was right. Shortly after tweeting that—maybe Mike’s ears were burning—Francesa tweeted out his (predictable) TGL take.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, of course. Hey, that’s sports radio! But everyone could also see that coming. Anyway, Homa then clapped back with this response.

We should point out that while Francesa is a native New Yorker, he doesn’t love all New York teams. In fact, one of his favorites thing to do on air is to rip the Mets and Jets to shreds. But it was still a solid response by Homa—as well as a solid defense of his new league. And he especially has to stick up for Tiger now that he’s his teammate on Jupiter Links Golf Club!

In any event, TGL has people talking. Even old heads like Mike Francesa. And that’s a good thing.
