Mary Fowler for L’Oreal Paris

Mary Fowler is capable of stunning onlookers on the field with her incredible style of play for the Matildas, and now she’s knocked our socks off with this campaign for L’Oreal Paris. The soccer star has been named a brand ambassador for the beauty giant and will be involved in its women’s empowerment programs and new launches in Australia and New Zealand. The brand chose Fowler partly for her poise in handling a meteoric rise at the age of 21. The Cairns-born forward says she hopes to encourage people to embrace themselves, “feel comfortable in their own skin and have the confidence to express who they are in a genuine way”.

Australian Fashion Week

There’s nothing we love more than to see Perth talent thriving, so it was a delight to see model and actor Edyll Ismail walking in the Albus Lumen and P.E Nation show during Australian Fashion Week. Ismail recently graduated from WAAPA and featured in NBC science-fiction series La Brea (streaming on Apple TV Plus and 9Now) — as well as on our cover in December. Key trends from the fashion extravaganza hosted at Sydney’s Carriageworks include embellished skirts, feminine pink hues, plenty of silk and tailored trenches.

Childish Gambino

The uber-talented multi-hyphenate performer, also known as Donald Glover, has announced a tour Down Under — and Perth is not missing out. The This Is America singer (also the creator and star of the series Atlanta, as well as front and centre in the recent TV remake of Mr. & Mrs. Smith with Maya Erskine) gave fans a surprise this week when he announced a new album, Atavista, and dropped a Hiro Murai-directed video for the song Little Foot Big Foot. The tour, with Amaarae as support, is his first to Australia since 2019. General release tickets, including for the show at RAC Arena on February 11, go on sale on May 20. Isola Bar e Cibo

Picture this: a beachside restaurant, cloudy autumn sky over the ocean, and a bowl of incredible pasta. Rottnest may not be the first place you think of for a cold-weather escape but a visit to Isola Bar e Cibo for its taglierini with Shark Bay crab, tomato, chilli, garlic, basil, cream and olive oil might just change your mind. Our advice is to also try the tiramisu and wash it all down with a smoked negroni.

65 Roses Day

You’d be forgiven for wondering if Valentine’s Day came late this year as Perth is set to be covered in red roses for a special cause. May 24 is 65 Roses Day, an annual event that raises funds for Cystic Fibrosis WA. There will be 20,000 long-stemmed roses available at stalls across the state, with each sale going towards assisting local families in their journey caring for a sick child. More information on their website.

Tiki Tots Playhouses

This WA business launched last year, making these cute handcrafted cubby houses with a tropical theme. Owner Justin Draman switched careers to pursue his love of furniture-making and set about designing an ideal playhouse with more light, space and visual appeal than some of the traditional models. The design measures 1.2m wide by 1.4m long, with a roof height of 1.6m, and comes with a personalised sign. You can check them out at venues including Folk & Merchant, Victoria Park Hotel, The Henley Brook and Cobblers Tavern or see tikitotsplay.com.au.
