It can be argued that no type of golfer on earth experiences more colorful snapshot of the sport than the muny single. Each round, they’re paired with new human beings from all walks of life. On those blessed days when the course is empty and they can go off solo, they enjoy self-reflection in its purest form. They see and hear things drunk foursomes scare off from miles away and come back with incredible stories to tell. Just ask Pretend-Wrangler654, a lone weekend warrior who posted one of the wildest muny golf stories you will ever hear to Reddit this week. Take it away, buddy.

We highly suggest you read his full account, but if you’re not the readin’ type, here’s the cliff notes: During a recent weekend round, the OP (“original poster” in Reddit speak) was paired with a threesome that play at 9 a.m. on Saturday, come rain, shine or their daughter’s birthday. No really. As it turns out, one of the guys in the threesome was supposed to leave by 11:30 a.m. to make his daughter’s 13th birthday lunch. The course was backed up though and it became clear that wasn’t going to happen. On the 5th hole, his wife called. He told her he would leave after 9. At the turn, the guy emerged from the clubhouse with more beer (at 11:10 a.m.), ready for the back 9.
On the 12th hole, his wife called again. He told her he was in the parking lot “sobering up” before driving home (11:50 a.m.). They fought and he hung up. As it turned out, he was separated from his wife but trying to “work things out.” He continued to play, and on the 18th hole a cart approached with a marshall and a woman. It was his wife, and in her hand, divorce papers. Checkmate.

Given the soon-to-be divorced guy’s behavior, we honestly can’t say we blame the woman, if only for the sake of their poor daughter, who had her first teenage birthday torpedoed by her jackass father. We don’t presume to know anything else about the pair’s relationship, so we’ll just leave it at that, but perhaps Pretend-Wrangler-654 said it best:
“Muny golf is wild.”
