Cameron Green’s back injury and Mitchell Marsh’s paternity leave have opened the door for Marcus Stoinis’ inclusion in Australia’s ODI squad for the upcoming white-ball series against Pakistan.
On Monday afternoon, Cricket Australia announced a 14-player squad for the three-match ODI series against Pakistan, which gets underway in early November.
Green, who has been ruled out for the summer with a back stress fracture, was not included along with vice-captain Marsh and opening batter Travis Head, who will both be on paternity leave.
Stoinis, dropped from Australia’s ODI team following last year’s World Cup triumph in India, has earned an unexpected recall, named alongside young guns Jake Fraser-McGurk and Cooper Connolly.
Wicketkeeper Alex Carey, Australia’s most consistent batter from the recent white-ball tour of the United Kingdom, has been dropped as national selectors entrust West Australian gloveman Josh Inglis with the keeping duties.

“This is our last ODI series before the Champions Trophy and the balance of the squad was focused on that as well as continuing to focus on preparation of individuals for the upcoming Test summer,” national selector George Bailey said in a statement.
“The one-day side had a great result in the UK particularly given illness and injury challenges. We view this is an opportunity to expand on that achievement in preparation for next February in Pakistan.”
The first ODI between Australia and Pakistan gets underway at the MCG on Monday, November 4.
