Iga Swiatek remarkably may feel she has a point to prove in 2025, despite phenomenal success in 2024.
Swiatek won five titles in 2024, more than any other player on the WTA Tour for the third consecutive year.
The Pole did, however, lose out on the year-end number one spot to Aryna Sabalenka, who won the Australian Open and US Open.
But Swiatek was impacted by a positive drugs test conducted before the Cincinnati Open, with the five-time Grand Slam champion missing a key period of the season.
Swiatek tested positive for trimetazidine, with a one-month suspension forcing her to miss the Korea Open, China Open and Wuhan Open.
She will now be aiming to get back on track as soon as possible, with the 2025 Australian Open rapidly approaching.
There is, however, concern from Andy Roddick for Swiatek ahead of the Grand Slam, as he discussed on the Served with Andy Roddick podcast.
“Most wins on tour, least amount of losses, finished number two in the world, you now have five Grand Slams,” said Roddick.

“61-9 on the year, best win percentage on tour, and yet we are going to talk about what you can improve on and there are still multiple things. That’s a good position to be in.
“Recent news about testing positive for a contaminated melatonin. I don’t think that makes you a bad person. Your story checks out, everyone agrees your story checks out.
“My only concern for Iga Swiatek at scale is how she lands in Australia and how she deals with the questions.
“Because what is going to happen is that she is going to give the same answer to the same question for the same day for the next three months.
“Lesser people would become impatient, I certainly would have. She is sensitive, you can see her emote more than Jannik Sinner, who keeps things calm and tight.
“I am just concerned about a coaching change, this news coming out, how she shows up in Australia. She needs to perform a little bit better in slams outside of the French Open, which she isn’t even leasing, she owns at this point.”
Aged just 23, Swiatek already boasts five Grand Slam titles, along with a stunning 22 WTA Tour-level titles.
But her success in the former has largely been on the clay courts of Roland Garros, with the Pole on four French Open triumphs.

She has also lifted the US Open trophy, but has failed to make it beyond the semi-finals and quarter-finals of the Australian Open and Wimbledon respectively.
Success in either of those Grand Slams will likely be on her agenda for 2025, along with stealing back the number one spot from Sabalenka.
