Arizona Adds Australian Dell’Orso via Transfer – University of Arizona Athletics

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona men’s basketball head coach Tommy Lloyd has announced the addition of Anthony Dell’Orso as transfer that will have two years of eligibility remaining starting with the 2024-25 season. Previously, Dell’Orso was Second Team All-CAA honoree at Campbell University in 2023-24 and was the 2023 Big South Freshman of the Year for the Camels.

“Anthony has been an outstanding player the past two seasons at Campbell, showing his versatile skillset that helped him earn all-conference honors each year,” Lloyd said. “He has been an efficient scorer in college from inside and outside the 3-point line and is able to get to the free throw line and convert at high level. We look forward to him joining the Arizona Basketball family and developing his game towards the next steps in his basketball career.”

Dell’Orso is from Melbourne, Australia, and had one of the most efficient offensive seasons in the entire country during the 2023-24 season. He shot 49.25 overall, 38.0% from the 3-point line and 80.9% on 157 attempts at the free throw line on his way to averaging 19.5 points per game. Only four other players in the country reached those numbers last season – Mark Sears (Alabama), Antonio Reeves (Kentucky), Ajay Mitchell (UCSB) and Chaz Lanier (North Florida).

The 6-foot-6, 190 pound guard stared 31 of 32 games for the Camels in 2023-24 and was the youngest player to earn first or second team All-Coastal Athletic Association honors. In addition to leading the team in scoring, he also paced the squad with 6.5 rebounds per game and 51 steals. In CAA play, his 21.9 points per game ranked third in the conference while his 624 points for the entire season are the sixth-most in Campbell University history.

Some of Dell’Orso’s single-game highlights include a trio of 30-point games, highlighted by a 35-point outburst at East Carolina. He also tallied 34 points against UNC Wilmington and 31 points at Monmouth and added seven double-doubles to his ledger.

The 2022-23 season saw Dell’Orso earn Big South Conference Freshman of the Year accolades after winning conference freshman of the week honors five times during the season. He averaged 12.5 points to lead all Big South freshmen in addition to 5.8 rebounds and connecting at a 48.7% clip from the floor. He scored in double figures 22 times and helped the Camels advance to championship game of the Big South Conference tournament after making the game-winning basket in the semifinals against Radford.

Prior to college, Dell’Orso was a member of the 2022 Victoria U20 state team and averaged 30 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and three steals as a senior at Marcellin in Australia on his way to earning MVP honors. At the Australian Junior Championships, he posted averages of 16.5 points, five rebounds and three steals.
