Play was suspended at 5.22pm local on Friday after fog interrupted the second round of the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship with Tony Chen and Quinnton Croker both leading the Australian tilt at seven shots off the lead.
Chen was even par through 14 holes when play was called at Taiheiyo Club, while Japan’s Rintaro Nakano led the tournament at seven-under-par, while event favourite Wenyi Ding sat one shot back at six-under. Indonesia’s Randy Bintang was five-under.
While Lukas Michel was next best of the Australians at one-over, he did not get to tee off given the fog delay having shot a first-round 71 on Thursday. Phoenix Campbell was one-over while Billy Dowling was two-over. Defending champion Jasper Stubbs was three-over and Connor Fewkes was four-over.
The Asia-Pacific Amateur will award the winner starts in the 2025 Masters at Augusta National and the 2025 Open Championship at Royal Portrush.
Four Australians – Stubbs last year, Harrison Crowe in 2022, Curtis Luck in 2016 and Antonio Murdaca in 2014 – have previously won the AAC.
