Australia and India are facing off in the fifth and final Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 with the series score line of 2-1 in the favor of the hosts.

The visitors won the series opener in Perth by 295 runs and the hosts hit back with a 10-wicket win in Adelaide’s pink ball Test, the Gabba Test ended in a draw due to constant rain interruptions which was followed by a dramatic final session win for the Aussies at the MCG in the Boxing Day Test.

So far, in the series, Travis Head has been the highest run scorer with 410 runs, scoring two centuries in the Adelaide and Brisbane Tests and 89 in Perth. For India, the top scorer with 359 runs is Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has shown his class with a 161 in Perth and twin 80s at the G.

With the ball, Jasprit Bumrah who is captaining India in the final Test has stood head and shoulders above the rest with 30 wickets in 4 matches at an average of 12.83 and is followed by Pat Cummins who has 20 wickets at an average of 22.65.

With the BGT trophy on the line, India are desperate for a win in Sydney to retain the title as well as to stay alive in the World Test Championship ahead of Australia’s tour to Sri Lanka while the hosts have an opportunity to have their hands on the BGT for the first time in a decade.

09:42 am: TEA BREAK! Disciplined bowling tested India’s batters, but Rishabh Pant showed grit despite taking body blows. He curbed his instincts to steady India near the 100-run mark; questions remain about his approach and Lyon’s role in the next session. IND 107/4

8:08 am: WICKET! Virat Kohli falls at last after looking determined to leave outside off. Boland nips one away and for the 7th time in the series he has nicked one outside off. Debutant Webster takes a diving catch at the third slip. Kohli c Webster b Boland 17(69). IND 72/4.

6:59 am: WICKET and LUNCH! Lapse in concentration from Shubman Gill at the brink of lunch as he walks down the track to Nathan Lyon but is unable to reach the pitch of the delivery and edges it straight to Steve Smith in the first slip. Unnecessary from the batter. Gill c Smith b Lyon 20(64). IND 57/3 and the lunch has been called.

5:42 am: Virat Kohli survives a moment of magic from Steve Smith in the slips. He is made to play one outside off once again and the ball carries to Smith who makes a fantastic effort and just grasses it on its way to Marnus Labuschagne at gully. It is ruled not out by the umpire and Smith shakes his head in disbelief.
