With the 2024 Paris Olympics concluding, attention now turns to Los Angeles, and the 2028 Games.
As usual, the next edition of the Olympics will feature a number of new sports, and in LA one of these will be flag football, a non-contact version of the American code played in the NFL.
To help promote this, the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) has named a number of new global ambassadors, and amongst them is Australia’s own Kodie Fuller, a member of the Australian Flag Football National and 2023 IFAF Asia Oceania silver medallist.
Fuller has been named as one of three new global ambassadors for flag football, with the intention of increasing “awareness, interest and participation in flag football internationally,” according to a statement.
Currently competing at 2024 IFAF World Championships in Finland, she made the move to flag football in 2023, following nine years of competition in the full contact version, and quickly became a trailblazer for the sport.
“As soon as I started playing flag football, I fell in love with the game,” Fuller said.
“Flag is a great entry point to our sport that creates incredible sporting and social opportunities, and it is an honor to be part of this global movement.
“The IFAF Asia Oceania Continental Championships in 2023 where Australia won silver injected fresh momentum to support the fantastic international growth of the game and, as a new Global Flag Football Ambassador, I’m excited to showcase the energy and dynamism of flag to the next generation – starting right here at the IFAF Flag Football World Championships.”
Fuller is joined by Brazil’s Gabi Bankhardt and Germany’s Benjamin Klever in the latest class of global ambassadors, entering a storied group that includes current NFL stars like Lamar Jackson, Justin Jefferson, and Dak Prescott.
