Australian cult hero Rachael ‘Raygun’ Gunn was given a guard of honour by her fellow Olympians ahead of Sunday’s Closing Ceremony in Paris.
Footage emerged of the Australian Olympic team cheering on the 36-year-old breaker as she was paraded through the streets on the back of rower Angus Widdicombe. The laughing Gunn posed in her now famous kangaroo dance move.
Gunn also performed some breakdancing moves for her teammates, who cheered in a circle around the Olympian.
Last week, Gunn failed to score a single point from the judges as she was eliminated from the round-robin stage, with her routine quickly becoming the subject of social media scrutiny.
Fellow Australian breaker Jeff ‘J-Attack’ Dunne, who participated in the men’s competition on Sunday, threw his support behind Gunn after the backlash.
“All I know is she represented hard, she has been the leading breaker in Australia for the women and I acknowledge her and respect her 100 per cent,” Dunne said.
Australian Olympic team chef de mission Anna Meares also leapt to Gunn’s defence after her Olympic debut.
“I haven’t spoken to Rachael yet but what I can say is that I love Rachael and I think that what has occurred on social media with trolls and keyboard warriors and taking those comments and giving them air time has been really disappointing,” Meares said.

“If you don’t know Rachael’s story in 2008, she was locked in a room crying, being involved in a male dominated sport as the only woman and it took great courage for her to continue on and fight for her opportunity to participate in a sport that she loved. And that got her to winning the Olympic qualifying event to be here in Paris.
“She is the best breakdancer female that we have for Australia.
“And you look at the history of what we’ve had as women athletes have faced in terms of criticism, belittlement, judgement and simple comments like they shouldn’t be there.
“One hundred years ago, leading into Paris in 1924, Australia sent a team of 37 athletes and none were women.
“One hundred years later, we have 256 women represented here. And Raygun is an absolutely loved member of this Olympic team.
“She has represented the Olympic team, the Olympic spirit with great enthusiasm, and I absolutely love her courage. I love her character, and I feel very disappointed for her that she has come under the attack that she has.”
Meanwhile, British musician Adele stopped a concert in Munich to discuss the Australian cult hero.
“It’s all me and my friends have been talking about. And I am not saying anything, but I think it’s the best thing that has happened at the Olympics for the entire time,” Adele told her fans.
“Did anyone see the breakdancing lady?
“Now I didn’t even know breakdancing was an Olympic sport these days. That is f***ing fantastic. I really really do.
“Aaron my percussionist is pissing himself laughing just thinking about it.
“I can’t work out if it was a joke but either way it has made me very very happy and me and my friends have been shitting ourselves laughing for nearly 24 hours.
“I just wanted to know if you have seen it. If you haven’t seen it please leave the show and google it because it is LOLZ.
“It is so f***ing funny and is my favourite thing that has happened in the Olympics this whole time.”
