After clocking the fastest time in the 200m women’s semi-final, 19-year-old gun Torrie Lewis sizzled in the final to record a personal best of 22.88 and secure the silver medal.
Lewis’s run capped a mind-blowing session at the event, where .Australia won a staggering six medals.
16-year-old sprinting sensation Gout Gout also won silver in the 200m, while Olympic 800m semi-finalists Claudia Hollingsworth and Peyton Craig also collected silvers.
Meanwhile, 18-year-old Delta Amidzovski added to her medal tally with a bronze in the 100m hurdles.
That followed her incredible gold medal performance in the long jump, where she became the first person in Australia’s history to win a gold in the field event on a world stage at any level.
Isaac Beacroft also showed why he is one to watch in the future, finishing fourth in the 10,000m walk while also shaving 68 seconds off his own national U20 record.
With one day to go, more medals are expected, too.
In fact, it would be a shock if Australia’s 1500m prodigy Cam Myers doesn’t end up on the podium in his event.
“I’m just so glad I came away with a PB. It’s all I wanted and there is nothing better I could have done,” Lewis said after her silver medal effort.
“To finally finish off my junior career; this will probably be my last race running as a junior specifically in an individual event. I’ve never been on a podium of this magnitude and this is the first time having a flag around myself.”
More to come …
