Australia will take home two Olympic boxing bronze medals for the first time since 1960, but won’t have a fighter in a gold medal match.
Both Charlie Senior and Caitlin Parker lost their respective semi final fights on Friday morning.
Boxers who lose semi finals are awarded bronze medals. Both pugilists missed the chance to fight for a gold or silver.

Parker won the first round 5-0 against China’s Li Qian but then lost rounds two and three.
Earlier, Senior lost his semi final to No.1 seed Abdumalik Khalokov of Uzbekistan in the men’s 57kg semi.
While Aussies won’t get any silver or gold in Paris, the two bronze are the nation’s best boxing result in 84 years.
Senior – the 22-year-old who was born in England before moving to Perth as a youngster and becoming a pugilist – lost all three rounds Khalokov.
Khalokov – who has not lost a fight since February 2023 – controlled the bout to perfection.
He won the first round unanimously, won the second 4-1 on the judges’ cards, and outlasted Senior in the third despite the Aussie desperately attempting a knockout.
Nonetheless it was a brave and composed performance from Senior against one of the best amateur fighters in the world.
“Our story is Charlie Senior – what a Games it has been, all a learning curve,” Nine commentator Andy Raymond says.
“The world at his feet our young man.

“Very, very quickly he has made a name for himself on the world stage, he came into this tournament ranked about 40 in the world.
“He has started chopping down those ahead of him on the rankings. This was an ask that was just a little too big.
“A tough morning back here in Australia for Charlie Senior but what an impressive young man.”
Khalokov is the reigning world champion and Asian Games gold medallist in the featherweight division.
Senior was born in Bradford in the UK but moved to Perth with his family when he was two.
He initially took up dancing, before donning the gloves at 11 years of age.
He was a junior champion before representing Australia at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, losing in the round of 16.
He won gold at last year’s Pacific Games to cement himself as one of the country’s best amateur fighters.
