Australian tennis pair Matt Ebden and John Peers have booked themselves into the Olympic men’s doubles final with an impressive win against the USA’s Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul.
Despite a tense first set, the Aussie duo kicked into another gear to clinch a 7-5, 6-2 victory.
This marks a significant achievement as it’s the first time since 2000 that Australia has made it to the men’s doubles final at an Olympic Games.

The match got off to a tight start, with each team holding their serve comfortably.
It wasn’t until the scores were even at 5-5 in the opening set that the Aussies made their move, breaking the Americans to take a 6-5 lead.
Ebden remained calm and collected, successfully serving out the set and gaining momentum heading into a memorable second set.
It was there when the Aussies really took off, winning the first four games.
There was some pushback from the Americans, who fought back to hold their serve and finally get on the board at 4-1.

Despite a brief comeback, the Aussies proved too strong in the end, showcasing their impressive doubles play.
After three match points, they claimed the win, and will head into the gold medal match at 8pm (AEST) on Saturday.
They face another US team featuring Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram.
