Cricket Australia announced a 13-man squad for the upcoming first Test of the five-game series against India starting November 22 in Perth. 

25-year-old Nathan McSweeney has been named in the squad and is all set to open the innings alongside Usman Khawaja in the fiery conditions of Perth.

There were speculations over David Warner’s successor as the opener in the Australian Test team. The Aussies had earlier tried ace batter Steve Smith in the opening slot against New Zealand in Test series earlier this year, however, Smith was visibly uncomfortable and failed to contribute in the slot.

As a result, the board decided to bring McSweeney into the squad for the Border-Gavaskar trophy who will partner experienced opener, Usman Khawaja.

While Alex Carey is likely to be the first-choice wicket-keeper for Australia, they have also added Josh Inglis to their roster as an extra batter and can step in as the second wicket-keeper in case of an injury.

The rest of the squad has been filled with experienced names. The Australians will head into the game with four specialist fast bowlers in their squad and one specialist spinner in Nathan Lyon.
