Australia Announce T20 World Cup Squad: Mitchell Marsh Captain, Steve Smith Dropped and no Wildcard Entry for Jake Fraser-McGurk – News18

Australia announced their squad for the T20 World Cup

Australia will be led by Mitchell Marsh at the T20 World Cup as they hope to become the first team to hold all three world titles at the same time.

Australia have announced their 15-man provisional squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 with Steve Smith snubbed from the Mitchell Marsh-led side. Exciting young prospect Jake Fraser-McGurk has also failed to make the cut as the 2021 T20 World Cup champions with the veteran David Warner set to partner Travis Head at the top of the order.

Australia have also included allrounder Marcus Stoinis who wasn’t given a national contract but impressed enough through his form in IPL 2024 for the Lucknow Super Giants to merit a look in.

Australia are aiming to become the first men team in history to hold all three world titles – ICC World Test Championship, ODI World Cup and T20 World Cup – at the same time. Last year, Australia clinched the WTC and ODI world cup titles in the space of six months, both under the captaincy of Pat Cummins.
