Ben Stokes’ English team will be facing Australia next in the infamous Ashes Test series in 2025. After a thrilling 2-2 series draw in England in 2023, Stokes and Co. will be aiming to bring the urn back home this time around. The Aussies have managed to keep their hands on the prized possession since 2015.
In the last nine years, two Ashes Test series on English soil have drawn 2-2 while the Aussies have got England’s number on their home turf. The six-time world champions have won both of the remaining two series since 2015, 4-0.

The 2025 Ashes will be played in Australia, and although precise dates are yet to be released by the ICC, the venues are more or less assured. The five-match series will be played across five iconic venues on the Australian continent.
Considering England’s recent form in Tests in Australia, Stokes will have a big challenge at bay if he is to bring the Ashes back home.
However, Australian legend, Ian Chappell might have the perfect formula for Stokes’ team in order to clinch the five-match Test series on Australian soil.

Chappell believes that England have a strong and very well-balanced Test team. Stokes’ recent changes in the team have paid them well in the ongoing home Test series against the West Indies. The decision to bench Johnny Bairstow for Jaimie Smith and pacer Gus Atkinson has proved to be a remarkable decision so far.
According to Chappell, England have a blistering pace attack at the helm with the addition of Atkinson and a fit Jofra Archer. However, they would need to find a solution for the tailender problem. England have failed to get the lower-order batsmen out quickly, conceding loads of runs in the process.
In addition to catching well, the England team has to learn to dismiss the lower order cheaply. Despite having an excellent attacking captain – the right leader for an Australia tour – England’s record against lower-order batters is often abysmal
Writing a column in ESPN, Chappell also explained how they can take advantage of David Warner’s retirement from Test cricket and win the Ashes series in 2025.
A strong England side to tour Australia would include a fit Atkinson, Wood, and hopefully Jofra Archer, to ensure the seam bowlers are complemented by fast men. The Australian batting is vulnerable, especially without the aggressive opening talents of David Warner
England’s record in the Ashes as of late hasn’t been up to the mark, and although they managed to pull off a great comeback in the previous Ashes against Australia in 2023 after going 2-0 down, their record in Australia has been terrible.
However, Chappell believes that with the correct mindset and proper decisions, England can pull off the impossible on Australian soil.
