Australia vs Bangladesh: Pat Cummins becomes second Australian to claim a T20 World Cup hattrick

Australia’s Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins created history during his side’s Super 8 clash versus Bangladesh by becoming only the second Aussie, after Brett Lee, to claim a T20 World Cup hattrick. Cummins achieved the feat during the first ball of the last over after dismissing Towhid Hridoy. In his previous over, he had removed the likes of Mahmudullah and Mehedi Hasan on the last two deliveries. Riding on his 3 for 29, Australia restricted Bangladesh for 140/8 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua on Thursday (June 20, local time). Overall, he became the fourth Australian with a hattrick in the format.

During the Bangladesh innings, Cummins’ bowling partner Mitchell Starc also created history by becoming the most prolific bowler in the history of white-ball cricket with his 95th World Cup scalp (after trapping Tanzid Hasan in the opening over). Ace spinner Adam Zampa also continued his good run, ending with 2 for 24. Thus, the Mitchell Marsh-led Australian team had a good outing in the first innings, restricting the Asian side to a modest 140/8.

From the Bangla Tigers, they rode on captain Najmul Shanto’s 41 and Hridoy’s 40 to post a below-par score.
