Australia vs Oman, T20 World Cup – Why is Pat Cummins not in Australia’s playing XI? | Sporting News India

Australia’s World Cup-winning captain, Pat Cummins was not included in the playing XI against Oman in the T20 World Cup 2024 match at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados, on June 6.

At the toss, Australian T20 captain, Mitchell Marsh revealed that Cummins will not be playing in this game and that Nathan Ellis will feature in his place, alongside the two front-line pacers, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood.

However, Marsh did not provide us with a definite reason for the fast bowler’s non-participation in this match.

Australia will be hoping to secure their third major trophy in the last 12 months, during this World Cup. If they succeed, they will become the first team to hold the World Test Championship, the 50-over World Cup and the T20 World Cup at the same time.

Why was Pat Cummins not in Australia team for match against Oman at T20 World Cup 2024?

While Australia skipper Mitchell Marsh did not reveal the reason on why Pat Cummins was not part of the XI against Oman for their opening T20 World Cup match, it is likely that the fast bowler was rested.

He was not part of his team’s warm-up matches against both West Indies and Namibia either.

Along with Cummins, Cameron Green, Ashton Agar and Josh Inglis were the other Australian players who did not make it into the playing XI from the 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup match against Oman.

According to reports, Pat Cummins joined up late with the Australian squad in the Caribbean (West Indies), after leading his Sunrisers Hyderabad team to the Final in IPL 2024. He had apparently also lost his luggage en-route to Barbados. Therefore, the management possibly did not want to risk him against a relatively weaker opponent like Oman.

The WTC and World Cup-winner is expected to return to the XI in the next match, when Australia take on arch-rivals England at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown in Barbados, on June 8, for the 17th match of the T20 World Cup 2024.
