Tim David has been hit with a fine after the Australian cricket star was caught cheating during an IPL match.

David, 28, and Mumbai Indians batting coach Kieron Pollard were caught on camera telling teammate Suryakumar Yadav to use a review to check a wide delivery.

New rules this year have allowed the use of DRS to enable batters to dispute ‘wide’ calls from umpires.

However, players sat in the dugout are strictly forbidden from telling teammates on the field whether they should review or not.

Both David and Pollard were caught red-handed as they were seen signalling for a review after watching a replay of a delivery that should have been called wide.

Yadav promptly reviewed it and Mumbai were given the wide, resulting in the team adding another run to their tally and the ball was delivered again.

David and Pollard committed a Level 1 offence under the IPL’s Code of Conduct, officials deemed.

The offence outlines that a player cannot ‘seek assistance from any person off the field of play in order to decide whether to request a referral to the TV umpire’.

In a statement, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said: ‘David and Pollard were each fined 20 per cent of their respective match fees. Both admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction.’
