The recently released report, funded by the Marina Industries Association (MIA) and International Marina Consultants, conducted independently and confidentially by Michigan State University (MSU), has shed light on the significant economic contribution of Australian marinas to the economy.
With a remarkable 40% participation rate from Australian marinas, the survey results are considered valid and reliable, highlighting the importance of the survey for the industry.
The report, which provides essential performance metrics for marina owners and operators, revealed that 291 Australian marinas contribute over $2.4 billion to the Australian economy and directly support almost 22,000 jobs. This notable economic contribution underscores the significance of the industry, despite being primarily comprised of small businesses.
The report also indicates growth across most metrics, emphasising the need for continued investment in the sector and more efficient assessment and approval frameworks from the government.
Participants of the survey have been sent a complimentary copy of the report. The summary fact sheets can be accessed here which are available to everyone.
Non-participating members can access the report for $2,500, while non-members can obtain it for $4,500.
Looking forward, the 2025 Survey is set to be conducted in the second half of next year, with the results slated for publication at Marinas26.
This ongoing effort aims to further understand and showcase the continued growth and significance of the Australian marina industry.
