The Australian cricket team is one of the best, securing numerous winnings. However, it seems most Australians don’t even recognise the top players when asked by a content creator.
In a viral video which took social media by storm, many individuals were asked if they knew two well-known Australian star cricketers. Much to the surprise of the fans, they fail to recognise them.
The content creator in the video carries a microphone and approaches people walking by in a public area and asks them “Have you heard of Pat Cummins or Travis Head?”
While many ignored his question, others said they didn’t know them. This clip shocks netizens as both players are one of the key players in the current Australian cricket team.
The Australian team won the ICC T20 World Cup in 2021 three times in recent years. They won the World Test Championship (WTC) title in England the previous year and attained their sixth ODI World Cup in India under the captaincy of their star player Pat Cummins. The people in the video seem unaware of these amazing global accomplishments of their own country’s team.
One guy in the video claimed to know Pat Cummins but when the content creator asked him what thoughts he has on him, he replied, “Don’t have any thoughts on him.” When asked about his qualities as a captain, he said “He is alright.”
One woman claimed the only cricketer she knew was Brett Lee. While at the end of the video, one man denied knowing Pat Cummins but said he knew Virat Kohli.
Fans shared their amusement and disbelief in the comments section, while many claim cricket is a dying sport.
“Cricket is almost dead in Australia,” one user said.
“How can this happen,” a second user commented.
“Cricket is only loved in the Indian subcontinent. We love to play a game that’s played by 10 countries. Yes, now we have been able to add 10 more countries after urging over several years. So that we can organise a World Cup and validate ourselves,” wrote another user.
