Australia’s best surfers heading to Mandurah

Australia’s best young surfers will take to the coast off Mandurah for the Peel Pro Junior competition in October.

The World Surf League-sanctioned event will run from October 12 to 14 as part of the WA Pro Surf Series.

The competition will be one of the final for the Asia Pacific region and will determine which surfers qualify for the WSL Junior Championships in 2025.

Just three days later, talented surfers from the Australasian region will head to Yallingup for the WSL-backed Cape Naturaliste Pro from October 17 to 20.

The WA Pro Surf Series provides a key opportunity for emerging surfers to gain valuable experience and boost their rankings as they head into the 2025 season.

It has become a stepping stone for some of WA’s best young surfers including NSW’s Morgan Cibilic, Queenslander Taj Stokes and locals Mia McCarthy and Claire Bevilacqua, who have claimed victory in the past.

Surfing WA events manager Justin Majeks said local surfers would have the chance to compete against some of the best athletes from across Australia.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for West Australian surfers to compete in their home State against top-level opposition,” he said.

“We’re eager to showcase WA’s incredible waves and the unique charm of our coastal communities through these events.”

Mandurah mayor Rhys Williams welcomed the Peel Pro Junior back to the region. “Mandurah is proud to have an enthusiastic surf community and we are excited to have the Peel Pro Junior back to our beaches in 2024,” he said.

“Best of luck to all involved and we hope you take the chance to enjoy everything Mandurah has to offer while you are here.”
