The Australian cricket team will be looking for a record-extending seventh title at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled in Bangladesh from October 3 to 20.
Australia, the reigning T20 champions, have been drawn in Group A for the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup with 2020 finalists India, Pakistan, neighbours New Zealand and a team from the qualifiers.
Bangladesh, England, South Africa, West Indies and another qualifier team make up Group B of the 10-team tournament. The top two teams from each group will make the semi-finals.
The two qualifier teams will be decided through the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The top two teams from the tournament who make the final on May 7 will claim the slots.
The Southern Stars will start their title defence against the qualifier in the group on October 4. The Australian women’s cricket team will play all its group matches at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the draws, groups and the full Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 schedule on Sunday.
Australia are the most successful team in the Women’s T20 World Cup, having lifted the title on six occasions (2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2020, 2023).
Inaugural champions England (2009) and the West Indies (2016) are the only other teams who have won the coveted title.
The semi-finals of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 are scheduled for October 17 and 18 while the final will be played at the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on October 20.
