BCCI Secretary Jay Shah Denies Approaching ‘Any Former Australian Cricketer’  With India Coach Job Offer – News18

Jay Shah Secretary of BCCI during match 5 of the Indian Premier League season 17 (IPL 2024) between Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians held at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on the 24th March 2024.

Jay Shah’s statement comes one day after current Delhi Capitals coach and former Australian international Ricky Ponting told said that he had one-on-one conversations during his time in the IPL 2024 and he subsequently turned down the possibility of taking up the Team India coaching job.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Friday clarified that the Indian board has not approached any former Australian cricketer with a coaching offer and that the media reports circulating are completely incorrect.

“Neither I nor the BCCI have approached any former Australian cricketer with a coaching offer. The reports circulating in certain media sections are completely incorrect,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a statement.

Shah’s statement comes one day after current Delhi Capitals coach and former Australian international Ricky Pinting told ICC.com that he had one-on-one conversations during his time in the IPL 2024 and he subsequently turned down the possibility citing his current lifestyle and the fact that a full-time coaching role with the Indian team means he cannot be involved in IPL.

Shah in his statement went on to emphasise that the the ideal candidate for the job will be someone who has an in-depth knowledge of India’s domestic framework that will help in elevating Team India to the next level.

“Finding the right coach for our national team is a meticulous and thorough process. We are focused on identifying individuals who possess a deep understanding of the Indian cricket structure and have risen through the ranks. It’s crucial that our coach has an in-depth knowledge of our domestic cricket framework to truly elevate Team India to the next level.”

The BCCI secretary went on to add that BCCI will pick the right candidate, capable of propelling Indian cricket forward.
