The Australian was a late omission from Brooklyn’s game against Boston on Thursday, with Nets coach Jordi Fernandez revealing the three-time All-Star is dealing with a “minor” calf issue.
Fernandez told reporters on Thursday that Simmons had undergone an MRI but the team was yet to receive the results, describing it as a “day-to-day thing for now”.
It was the fourth game this season Simmons had missed, although the previous three were all back-to-backs as part of Brooklyn’s load management plan for the 28-year-old.
It comes after Simmons played in just 15 games for the Nets last season, having been eventually shut down in March due to a nerve impingement in his lower back.
Simmons, who has now missed 189 of 246 games over the last three seasons, said at media day in October that he actually didn’t “feeling 100 per cent” entering last year’s training camp.

“I think people forget me as a player when I’m healthy, I can play basketball, I’m pretty good, right?” Simmons said.
Simmons has shown flashes of his best basketball this season, recently recording 10 assists in just 12 minutes, although he has also still at times looked too hesitant to attack the rim and put pressure on the defence.
Simmons started the season in the point centre role with Nic Claxton unavailable but has since moved back to the bench where he has thrived as the team’s primary backup point guard.
Coach Fernandez told reporters earlier in the month that his goal for Simmons this season was to shoot more, adding he had a specific target number in mind for every game.
“I want him to shoot more. My goal for him is 10 (shots per game),” Fernandez said.
“He’s gotta find a way to get there. He hasn’t gotten there, but I know he can… Those attempts need to go up… He’s more than capable.”
Simmons has yet to record 10 field goal attempts in a game this season, instead averaging 4.3 with a season-high six attempts in an overtime loss to Boston.
