Cricket Australia (CA) CEO Nick Hockley on August 6 announced he will step down from the role at the end of the ongoing 2024-25 season. Hockley, who has worked at CA for 13 years, had take over as interim CEO following the resignation of Kevin Roberts in 2020. He took over the role permanently in 2021.
 

“This was a difficult decision, however following what promises to be a blockbuster summer and with our five-year strategic plan well progressed, this is the right time to pursue another challenge,” Hockley said in a statement issued by CA.
 

“This is not the time for goodbyes, as I remain completely focused on the season ahead and supporting the Board on succession and a smooth transition,” he added.
 

CA Chair Mike Baird confirmed that Hockley will remain as CA’s CEO until his successor is appointed. Baird thanked Hockley for his leadership during Covid-19 pandemic.
 

“As CEO, Nick navigated the sport through a period of unprecedented challenge during the pandemic and has delivered significant growth and stability,” Baird said in a statement.

“Under Nick’s leadership, several major deals are now in place – many for the next seven years – and the game is set up for continued success.
 

“As Nick says, his full focus is on delivering another successful summer for our fans, players, broadcasters, partners and the whole of Australian Cricket and there will be time to celebrate his legacy and achievements when he steps down from the role next year.
 

“The timing of Nick’s decision allows the Board to ensure a smooth transition and we will begin the process of finding and appointing his successor shortly.”

Key highlights from Hockley’s tenure

During Hockley’s tenure, Australia won the T20 World Cup 2021 and World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23. Also, Australia toured Pakistan in 2022 and won the Test series there -10 after a long gap of 24 years.
 

He also handled Tim Paine’s departure as captain amidst controversy. However, he faced criticism for Justin Langer’s controversial exit as head coach. 
 

He also finalised a seven-year broadcast rights deal of 1.5 billion dollars with Foxtel and Seven. Also, he penned down a 360 million dollars India rights deal with Disney star. In addition, professional female players saw a pay rise.
