Australian cult hero Scott Boland’s incredible rise in world cricket has been formalised, while his bunny Virat Kohli has plunged to a 12-year low.
Boland, who debuted at the age of 32 when taking 6-7 at the MCG against England in 2021, has jumped up an incredible 29 places on the ICC’s Test bowling rankings this week.
The now-35-year-old has cracked the top 10 for the first time and is now sharing ninth place with Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja.

It comes after Boland was named player of the match as Australia beat India in Sydney to claim the Border-Gavaskar trophy on Sunday.
The right-arm quick took 4-31 and 6-45. In three matches for the series overall he took 21 wickets at an enviable 13.19.
Only the world’s best fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah finished with a better average, taking an incredible 32 wickets at 13.06.
Bumrah remains on top of the ICC rankings but Australia captain Pat Cummins has made ground and is in second place.
Cummins and Boland are joined by Josh Hazlewood (4th) and Nathan Lyon (7th) to make it four Aussie bowlers inside the top 10, while Mitchell Starc sits in 14th place.
Aside from Bumrah the news is not so good for Indian players after a 3-1 series loss Down Under.
Batting legend Virat Kohli has dropped outside the top 25 for the first time since 2012, when his Test career was only just beginning.
The veteran was tormented by Boland during the Border-Gavaskar series and returned just 190 runs – including one century in Perth – at 23.75.
He now sits 27th on the ICC’s batter rankings.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who was dumped from the fifth Test following a dismal three Tests, has plummeted to 42nd on the list.
England’s Joe Root and Harry Brook remain first and second on the batter’s list while Travis Head (5th) and Steve Smith (8th) are the only Aussies in the top 10.
