Boomers, swimming showdown highlight day 1

Australia’s basketball team will kick off their Olympic campaign on Saturday night (AEST), with the star-studded Boomers looking to push for a medal in Paris.

Josh Giddey, Patty Mills and Joe Ingles will all be in action for the side against Spain.

But the main attraction on Saturday will be the swimming, with the 400m women’s freestyle final expected to feature Ariarne Titmus going up against Katie Ledecky.

The pair have been at the forefront of a huge rivalry in recent years and will do battle in the women’s event, while some male Aussie stars will also be in the pool.

Also on the agenda for day one will be the rugby sevens gold medal game, the men’s skateboarding final and the Kookaburras first game in the men’s hockey.

Canoe star Jess Fox is also in action on a packed day.
