Australia has played at least one Test at the MCG during every Test summer since 1950. Later, it became their premier venue for the Boxing Day Test after 1980.

Notably, they have not been able to defeat India since the whitewash in 2011. India has won 2 and drawn 1 in their last three tours at the venue. So, with the series and the WTC final spot on the line, Australia will look to turn the tide in their favour and win the match at the MCG.
