Journey Beyond named Monarto Safari Park lodge operator

Tourism business Journey Beyond will operate the new luxury safari lodge at Monarto Safari Park in partnership with Zoos SA.

In a statement, Journey Beyond said it was undertaking “more detailed work” and will make further announcements this month.

“Journey Beyond’s recruitment for this exciting new project has commenced,” Journey Beyond said.

Construction of the luxury property commenced in 2021, with the final product to feature 78 rooms, conference facilities, a restaurant, a bar, two swimming pools and a day spa.

Adelaide company joins AUKUS supply chain

AML3D has made a nuclear submarine component as part of the AUKUS partnership, with the copper-nickel 3D printed components undergoing testing before planned installation onboard conventionally armed subs in 2025.

The development was recognised by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Richard Marles, who said: “production of a US Virginia-Class submarine component in Australia is a great example that AUKUS is happening now, and demonstrates our commitment toward supporting expansion of the trilateral industrial base”.

“Australia’s Nuclear-Powered Submarine Program and the AUKUS partnership will provide incredible opportunities for Australia’s industry, and these opportunities have already started.”

SA leads national building approvals

New Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data for November 2024 shows monthly private sector house approvals increased by over 14 per cent in South Australia, in seasonally adjusted terms.

This is the strongest growth nationally and ahead of the Australian average, where monthly approvals fell by 1.1 per cent in November.

Treasurer Stephen Mullighan said the data showed “that the Housing Roadmap is beginning to have a positive impact on the industry’s ability to deliver more housing”.

St Clair affordable housing development sells out

All 185 homes at Peet’s Woodville Road residential development, created in partnership with the state government, have been sold.

Nearly half of all houses at the St Clair development were dedicated to being affordable, with the sales milestone achieved in just 18 months.

“We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved at Woodville Rd,” Peet managing director and CEO Brendan Gore said.

“Thinking differently about how we plan and design communities is going to be critical to overcoming the current housing supply challenges facing cities around the country.

“Woodville Rd demonstrates that it is possible to deliver high-quality, affordable homes in great locations close to the city while maintaining an affordable price point.”

Wine industry scholarships

Up to 12 scholarships are available for a new educational program aimed at assisting the South Australian wine tourism sector.

The program is offered by the Great Wine Capitals (GWC) Adelaide chapter and the University of Adelaide. It targets early to mid-career wine industry professionals and those from other fields interested in the wine business and tourism.

The program will cover various topics including developing an entrepreneurial mindset, building brand reputation, and designing effective digital communication strategies. Applications close on February 7, 2025.

South Australian Grain Industry Awards, an inaugural gala dinner event hosted by Grain Producers SA to spotlight the grain sector, at Adelaide Oval on February 4.

Adelaide tours combine

Adelaide tourism operators Radelaide Tours and Popeye River Cruises have partnered to launch “Discover Adelaide: Walk and River Cruise”, which combines a walking tour with a scenic river cruise.

The tour begins with a 2.5km walk through the heart of Adelaide, highlighting the city’s history, culture and Indigenous heritage. Guests then transition to a 45-minute cruise on the River Torrens, enjoying views of Adelaide’s landmarks.

“This all-in-one experience combines a 2-hour walking tour through the heart of the city with a 45-minute scenic river cruise aboard the iconic Popeye heritage boat,” said Dax Cottam, founder of Radelaide Tours.

“Adelaide is a city with so many layers – rich in history, culture, and natural beauty.”

The tour costs $84 for adults and $64 for children and 5 per cent of proceeds are donated to support local homeless and Indigenous charities.

 

Gaganis unveils plans for new Hindmarsh facility

Planning approval has been granted for South Australian fine food merchant Gaganis’ new wholesale facility and office complex in Hindmarsh, South Australia, designed by Cheeseman Architects.

The multi-level facility will house Gaganis’ new national corporate headquarters and will serve wholesale customers too.

“In our new national headquarters, Gaganis will continue to attract national and international buyers and suppliers to its facility to show case its global sourcing success, whilst building on generational relationships with Australian and global suppliers to bring the very best of everything food and cookware to you,” said Gaganis, which was established in 1971 by South Australian Paul Gaganis.
