Cameron Smith lights up NSW Open on day one – Australian Golf Digest

Cameron Smith lived up to his billing as the superstar golfer on the Murray River, grabbing the lead midway through day one at the NSW Open with a sensational opening round at Murray Downs Golf and Country Club.

Several hundred golf fans walked in the fairways after Smith, Lucas Herbert and Declan O’Donovan teed off No.10 at 7.20am. Smith wowed the crowd with four front-nine birdies before adding three more in his first six holes of the back nine.

The 2022 British Open winner then made three closing pars for a seven-under-par 64 that equalled the course record (although the NSW Open is playing Murray Downs as a par 71 while the course record was twice registered when playing as a par 72).

Smith earned an early one-shot lead over playing partner and fellow LIV Golf star Lucas Herbert who posted a fine 66.
