The 16-year-old son of Aussie tennis champion Lleyton, will take on former world No. 16 Nikoloz Basilashvili in his first qualifying match.

He’s set to hit the court at around 11:45am (AEDT).

In order to qualify for a maiden Australian Open appearance, Hewitt will need to win three qualifiers across the next three days.

If he achieves that, Hewitt will emulate the deeds of his famous father, who qualified for his first Australian Open just one month before his 16th birthday back in 1997.

Hewitt is one of 19 Aussie men and women set to take the court on Tuesday to begin their qualifying campaigns.

Another notable name among them is former world No. 17 Bernard Tomic, who will be hoping to cap quite the comeback.

The resurgent 32-year-old was ranked 825 in the world in 2022 to now be No. 213.

Tomic hasn’t featured in the grand slam since being bundled out in the first round of the 2022 Australian Open.

He’ll face Slovakian Jozef Kovalik on Tuesday around midday (AEDT).
