Dante Exum has been one of Australia’s most successful basketball exports for some time now, plying his trade in the NBA and Europe for over a decade.
But unfortunately for the talented guard, his output has only been matched by his injury history, with the 29-year-old consistently losing time to a variety of issues.
The Sporting News has compiled a complete timeline of Dante Exum’s injury history.
It was a horror start to the 2024-25 season for Exum; after suffering a wrist injury during training camp, the Aussie was forced to undergo surgery that will see him sidelined for three months.
This means that Dallas Mavericks fans won’t get to see him suit up until 2025, as he and his team strive for a second straight finals appearance.
Boomers fans faced a worrying few days at the 2024 Olympics, after Exum suffered a compound dislocation during one of Australia’s warm-up games.
Stunningly, he only missed one game with the right finger injury, before returning for his team’s clash with Canada.
During the early months of 2024, Exum missed 22 games while dealing with a plantar fascia sprain in his right foot, as well as right knee bursitis.
Exum made headlines during his time in the Euroleague, after falling victim to a vicious body slam from Guerschon Yabusele during a fight between his Partizan Belgrade and opponents Real Madrid.
After being traded in December 2019, Exum was hoping for a fresh start with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
However, just 24 games into his tenure with the team, he suffered a left ankle sprain that saw him miss the remainder of that season.
After a dominant Utah Jazz season in 2018-19 that saw the team win 50 games, Exum was ruled out of their entire postseason run.
He suffered a partially torn patella tendon, just three games after returning from a previous injury.
Exum missed 25 games in early 2019, after suffering an ankle sprain and bone bruise.
The Australian guard was forced to miss significant time at the start of the 2017-18 season, after undergoing surgery to address a separated shoulder.
The injury came during the pre-season, when he landed awkwardly on the shoulder during a game against the Phoenix Suns, and resulted in him playing just 66 of his team’s games.
After an impressive rookie NBA season, Exum was sidelined for his entire second year in the league, after he tore his ACL.
He suffered the injury during the off-season, playing for Australia against Slovenia in an international friendly.
