Alex de Minaur had a cheeky admission about his recent engagement to Katie Boulter after defeating Argentinian Tomas Etcheverry at Ken Rosewall Arena.
The Aussie, whose win kept Australia in its United Cup tie, was electric in the first set, winning 6-1 in just under half an hour before wrapping it up in the second at 6-4.
“Once again he finds the form he so often has,” Todd Woodbridge said on Nine’s coverage.

De Minaur came into the match in a do-or-die situation after Olivia Gadecki was defeated 6-4, 6-4 by Nadia Podorosk in the first leg of the tie.
The world No. 9 was made to work for it in the second set, with Etcheverry finding a better rhythm but the Aussie’s class was on full display.
“I’ve been putting some great work in the pre season,” de Minaur told Jim Courier after the match.
“I felt comfortable with the way I was playing before the tournament so I just told myself to back myself and play the type of tennis I wanted to play and thank god I executed today and got a win for Australia.”
De Minaur starts the 2025 tennis season off the back of an incredible 2024 which culminated in him breaking through to the top 10 for the first time.
The 25-year-old reached the fourth round of the Australian Open at the start of the year before playing in the quarter-finals of the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open.
De Minaur then finished the year off with news of his engagement and admitted “some would say that’s the biggest win of my career”.
“It was a great way to finish off the year and we keep on going,” he said.
But Etcheverry wasn’t completely down and out, managing to beat Australia’s Matt Edben and Ellen Perez in the doubles alongside Podorosk.
