Australia’s Maddison Keeney and Anabelle Smith won the gold medal in the women’s 3m synchronised event at the Diving World Cup 2024 Super Final in Xi’an, the People’s Republic of China.
The Xi’an meet was the Super Final which concluded the FINA Diving World Cup 2024 series. The top 18 athletes in individual events and the top eight in synchronised and team events from the first two stops in Montreal and Berlin qualified for the Super Final.
Australia finished the Diving World Cup 2024 Super Final, which concluded on Sunday, with three medals – one gold and two bronze.
Keeney and Smith, who won the bronze medal in the women’s 3m synchronised event at the Rio 2016 Olympics, scored 284.67 points in Xi’an to top the podium ahead of USA’s Sarah Bacon-Kassidy Cook (284.10).
Interestingly, it was the Americans who pipped the Aussie duo to take gold at the Berlin World Cup last month.
Italy’s Chiara Pellacani and Elena Bertocchi, with 268.92 points, settled for bronze in the five-team final at Xi’an.
Maddison Keeney also won a bronze medal in the women’s 3m springboard individual event.
The 27-year-old Aussie diver tallied 291.15 points to finish behind China’s former world champion Chen Yiwen (376.05) and Chiara Pellacani (301.95) in the 12-woman final.
Keeney also also part of the Australian quartet which claimed a bronze in the mixed 3m and 10m team event.
Cassiel Rousseau, Emily Meaney and Kurtis Mathews, along with Keeney, accumulated 440.20 points to finish behind China (500.75) and Great Britain (456.75).
Smith and Keeney’s gold denied China a clean sweep at the meet. The hosts topped the medal tally with eight gold medals and one silver while Australia finished second.
