NSW Blues all rounder Jack Edwards has been named captain of Australia’s PM’s XI team for a two-day, day/night clash with India at Manuka Oval in Canberra from November 30-December 1.
The squad was selected by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Cricket Australia’s National Selection Panel (NSP).
Edwards, who this year was appointed the captain of the Blues’ One-Day Cup team and last week led NSW to a massive Sheffield Shield win over South Australia, will be joined by NSW squad mates Ollie Davies, Sam Konstas and rookie Charlie Anderson in the PM’s team.
The hulking 24-year-old has been one of the form players in Australian domestic cricket over the last 18 months, winning the Steve Waugh Medal as the NSW men’s player of the year last summer.
Prime Minister Albanese said:
“The Prime Minister’s XI has a rich history within Australian Cricket and I am delighted to confirm the squad for this summer’s match against India.
“Taking on India, one of the best sides in world cricket featuring the likes of Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant, will be an amazing experience for the squad, particularly knowing that millions of fans around the globe will be watching the match.
“I want to thank Jack Edwards for taking on the role of captain and look forward to watching him lead a side which will compete strongly while remaining true to the traditions and values of the Prime Minister’s XI.”
Davies and Konstas both featured in the recent Australia A versus India A series, while Anderson was a member of Australia’s U19 ICC World Cup winning team earlier this year.
Anderson, a Kamilaroi man, has had a whirlwind 12 months. On top of claiming the World Cup winner’s medal he made a surprise debut for the NSW One-Day Cup team last month and this week attended the Cricket Australia (CA) and the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) Foundation’s second annual National Indigenous Cricket Training Camp.
The match will see India play under lights with the pink Kookaburra ball ahead of the NRMA Insurance Day Night Test Match at Adelaide Oval.
The match will be broadcast live via FOX Cricket, Kayo Sports and ABC Sport and live-streamed by cricket.com.au and the CA Live App.
