Former Australian cricketer and famous “catch of the century” player Adam Dale and wife Nickie’s Eltham house has sold after bowling over several prospective buyers.

The couple listed the 138 Brougham St home with a $1.65m-$1.75m price guide, after living there for about a decade.

Between 1997 and 2000, Dale played in two Test matches and 30 One Day Internationals.

He was a member of the 1999 Cricket World Cup-winning Aussie team and played

first-class and List A cricket for the Queensland Bulls, plus club cricket for several Melbourne sides.

In 1997’s Mercantile Mutual Cup, Dale made a spectacular dive and caught the ball with one hand to dismiss NSW batter Phil Emery.

Then-commentator Bill Lawry described the moment on-air as “one of the best catches you will ever see” and it has since been dubbed cricket’s “catch of the century”.

Dale said he and Nickie were sad to sell their Eltham home, but were moving to Queensland for his work in the furniture industry and to be closer to their eldest daughter and her family, who live in the state.

He said they had renovated the abode which features two living areas and a downstairs rumpus room and office where Nickie, a nutritionist, worked from home.

“We love the location and the house gave everyone an opportunity to have area for themselves and then we could come back together as a family,” Dale added.

Granite stone bench tops were added to the kitchen during the renovation.

Cherished memories of the property include their daughters’ birthday celebrations and spending time around the outdoor fireplace.

They sold the house through Jellis Craig Eltham director Aaron Yeats who had previously listed some of their earlier homes.

Mr Yeats declined to comment on the Brougham St pad’s sold price but industry sources indicated it changed hands for a sum close to the asking range’s upper end.

The four-bedroom house attracted plenty of interest from families and buyers wanting to use it for a home-based business, before selling to a family relocating from the US who were impressed by the renovation completed in 2015-16.

The Dales planted their garden with low-maintenance native Australian trees.

“Eltham is known for its character homes and this is a modern take on a character home with its big solid ironbark beams, cathedral ceilings and timber window frames,” Mr Yeats said.

He said the suburb’s schools and transport options were expected to attract an increasing number of buyers in the near future.
