Australia began their tour of England on a fantastic note, winning the first of the three T20Is by 28 runs.
Travis Head and Matthew Short gave Australia yet another quick-fire start after England won the toss and elected to field first, adding 86 runs in the first six overs. Although Australia suffered a collapse, as Short, Marcus Stoinis and Tim David fell between overs 10-12, and the visitors were five down within the 13th over.
Liam Livingstone (3/22) and Saqib Mahmood (2/21) were the wreckers in chief for England, as Australia couldn’t even bat for the full 20 overs and were all out on 179 in 19.3 overs.
However, England couldn’t capitalise on the momentum they gained in the second half of the Australian innings and were all out for just 151. Sean Abbott (3/28), Josh Hazelwood (2/32) and Adam Zampa (2/20) didn’t allow the English batters to build any sort of momentum in the chase and as a result, the hosts succumbed to a loss.
