Football Australia appoints experienced former Premier League official as Head of Referees

Football Australia (FA) has appointed Jon Moss as its new Head of Referees.

Moss brings a wealth of experience, having officiated over 500 professional matches – 285 of which were in England’s Premier League, including every major cup final.

The Englishman’s most recent position was as Video Assistant Referee (VAR) Manager for the Scottish Football Association.

In his role with Football Australia, Moss will be responsible for overseeing match officials’ development programs, implementing best practices in officiating, enhancing professionalism and accountability within the refereeing community, improving the integration of technology in match officiating and fostering stronger relationships between referees, clubs, and other stakeholders.

“I’m excited to join Football Australia and contribute to the growth of the game in this country,” Moss said.

“My goal is to elevate the standard of refereeing at all levels, from grassroots to the A-Leagues, ensuring that Australian football continues to thrive and gain international recognition.”
