Former Nebraska guard Jaz Shelley signs with Australian pro basketball team

Weeks after getting drafted — and cut — by the WNBA, Jaz Shelley is headed back to her native Australia to play in the NBL1.

Shelley has been picked up by the Ballarat Miners, a NBL1 team located just west of Melbourne, for the rest of the season. She joins former Huskers Isabelle Bourne and Sam Haiby in the top pro Australian league

“I’m so excited to be back playing basketball in Australia again and even more thrilled to be able to come and play for the Ballarat Miners,” Shelley said in a press release. “I couldn’t think of a better coaching staff and group of girls to start this new journey with.”

Before Shelley heads back to Australia, she’ll hold a June 6 basketball camp in Lincoln for 6th-9th grade girls. Interested parents can visit www.vigliancohoops.com for more information.
