Hazlewood sent for scans after fresh injury blow

Hazlewood sent for scans after fresh injury blow

Josh Hazlewood has been sent for scans on a possible calf injury after he came from the field on the fourth morning of the third Test at the Gabba.

Having been deemed fit to return to the side after a side strain kept him out of the Adelaide Test, Hazlewood looks unlikely to bowl again in Brisbane.

He bowled just one over before the drinks break and then left the field.

At drinks, Hazlewood was involved in a long conversation with skipper Pat Cummins, Steve Smith, and physio Nick Jones before he came from the field.

He also looked to have been stretching his side.

But in a brief statement, Cricket Australia said Hazlewood would undergo scans.

“Josh Hazlewood reported calf awareness in this morning’s warm-up. He will be taken for scans to assess the injury. Any updates will be shared in due course.”

Hazlewood had missed the first few overs, with Josh Inglis sub-fielding in his place.

Should he be ruled out for Boxing Day, Hazlewood will likely be replaced by Scott Boland on his home turf at the MCG.
