Head in disbelief as ‘outrageous grab’ helps clinch series

Travis Head has left himself, his teammates and Scotland’s Brandon McMullen in disbelief after a stunning one-handed grab in Australia’s series whitewash clinching victory.

After Mitchell Marsh won the toss and elected to bowl in Edinburgh, McMullen entered the innings in the third over at 1-18.

The 24-year-old peeled off a half-century and looked to be leading Scotland to a decent total before he was dismissed by Head’s one-handed grab at short fine leg off the bowling of Marcus Stoinis.

The catch brought about a smile and tip of the cap from Head while Stoinis and McMullen simply laughed.

“What a take,” commentator Andrew Leonard said on Fox Cricket.

“That’s superb … McMullen he can’t believe it, I’m not sure Travis Head can either. An outrageous grab, plucking an apple from the tree.”

McMullen fell for 56 at 6-138 with Scotland going on to post 9-149 after 20 overs.

Cameron Green was the pick of the bowlers with 3-35 while Aaron Hardie and Sean Abbott claimed two wickets each.

Australia’s chase was off to a horror start when Jake Fraser-McGurk was gone for a duck. Head (12) then followed shortly after at 2-18.

Marsh and Green steadied the ship before the skipper was bowled for 31.

Tim David added 25 runs but was dismissed at 4-131.

Green and Hardie (11 not out) saw off the rest of the Scottish bowlers with the former scoring his highest T20I score, finishing 62 not out, hitting two fours and five sixes.

Australia won the game by six wickets to secure a 3-0 T20 series win.

“It’s been a tough week results-wise for us, but having the opportunity to play against a team like Australia, to get them across to Scotland for a series, has been a fantastic experience for all of us,” Scotland captain Richie Berrington said post-match.

“To have that exposure, it’s something we need more of to keep improving as a team.”
