A week after Lydia Ko continued her magical summer with a victory at the Old Course in St. Andrews to capture the AIG Women’s Open, the LPGA is back in the States, this time at a new event in the Northeast, the FM Championship at TPC Boston.
The inaugural event in Norton, Mass., started with 144 players and is down to 79 on the weekend. The overall purse is $3.8 million with the winner taking home $570,000 for her victory. It is the largest prize fund on the LPGA outside the majors and tour championship.
This year marks the first of a five-year partnership between the LPGA and FM.
The LPGA will have a week off next week, then it’s onto the Solheim Cup, Sept. 13-15 at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Va. (Here are the respective teams for the matches: U.S., Europe)
