Sam Goodman could potentially go early and fight Japanese megastar Naoya Inoue in September this year after his promoters likened the undefeated Australian to great mate and UFC superstar Alexander Volkanovski.
The revelation comes as Volkanovski himself likened the super bantamweight’s fight style to that of “a pitbull”, while also revealing his decision to pay $4000 for a pair of signed Goodman gloves.
Already one of the biggest names in Aussie boxing, Goodman is rolling the dice on a guaranteed $1 million payday when he faces rising Thai star Chainoi Worawut on Wednesday’s stacked No Limit Pay-Per-View card in Wollongong.

Despite already being mandatory for division king Inoue, Goodman wants one more fight to ready for the challenge that is expected to come in December, with potential locations including Japan, the United States and Saudia Arabia.
However, with Team Inoue also wanting a second hometown headliner in September too, Goodman’s promoters have surprisingly revealed the Albion Park product could “do a Volk” and fight there.
Speaking with Fox Sports Australia after Tuesday’s weigh ins, No Limit CEO George Rose said, in victory, the September date could still be a possibility for his charge.
Rose also likened Goodman to fellow Wollongong fighter Volkanovski, whose “anyone, anywhere, anytime” mantra has seen him rise up to UFC superstardom.
“If my phone rings immediately after Wednesday night’s fight, I can guarantee Sam will be ready for September,” Rose said.
“The guy is just built different.
“And I actually think it’s why he and Volk are such good mates.
“Volkanovski has not only taken some of the hardest fights that exist in the UFC, and done it over and over, but he’s also made a name for stepping up on short notice.
“And I can tell you Sam has the same mindset.
“Forget losing 10 weeks to fight Inoue in September, this is the world title fight he’s been preparing 20 years for.”

As first revealed back in March, the most likely plan for Inoue is to fight Irishman TJ Doheny in September before then doubling down against Goodman just before Christmas.
“But right now, I know nothing has been set in stone,” Rose continued.
“So if they want to lose the belts in September, give us a call.
“Because in the fight game, anything can happen.
“Guys get hurt in sparring, they get sick, things fall over or don’t go to plan.
“So I can tell you that once Sam Goodman wins his headliner against Worawut on Wednesday night, the very next morning preparations begin for Naoya Inoue.”
Only last month, Volkanovski shelled out four grand for a pair of Goodman’s signed gloves at a charity auction.
“Which is because, apart from donating to a good cause, I wanted to show my support,” the former UFC champ told Fox Sports Australia.
“Sam Goodman is a great guy and a great fighter.
“I love the skill he brings.
“The calculated wars.
“That’s when MMA and boxing is at its highest level.
“And Sam’s not only a smart fighter either but strong, with lots of offence, really gets into it.
“And his defence too is in so close that it’s usually a firefight.
“And you have to love that because it becomes like watching a pitbull go at it.”

Rose added that Goodman’s frame on the scales Tuesday was proof of a fighter ready to step up against Inoue, no matter when the fight offer comes.
“You could see at today’s weigh ins that Sammy looked stronger, looked better than ever,” he said. “It was different to what we’ve even seen from him previously.
“And it’s because Sam Goodman is continually fine tuning everything.
“And with a big over Worawut, he’s ready to go.”
Despite all the talk about his impending world title blockbuster against Inoue, Goodman is refusing to look ahead and has spent much of fight week shutting down such talk from journalists.
“Because I’m not allowing my head to go there,” he said.
“Right now, everyone wants to talk to me about what’s next.
“About this fight being an audition for Inoue.
“But for me, what’s next is irrelevant.
“A lot of people get caught up in the bulls*** of this sport.
“Get caught up in everything going on around them, or pleasing other people.
“But if you don’t win, then you don’t eat.
“That’s why nothing changes for me.”
Asked about his rival, Goodman continued: “Chainoi has a decent back hand and finds room for it.
“But not many people touch me with a back hand.
“So I’ll take his confidence away early.
“I’ll break him down and beat him up.”
