Australia lose by 24 runs to India in T20 World Cup (X.com)
After a bitter exit from the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup Super 8 stage, Australian media came hard on ICC for allegedly favouring India with a flexible schedule whereas the Aussies were forced to play day/night games.
The Australian cricket team, who won six World Cups, a World Test championship and a Championships Trophy in the past three decades, were knocked out of the 2024 World Cup by Afghanistan.
After losing two crucial Super 8 games to India and Afghanistan, the Aussies laid their hopes on Bangladesh, who unsurprisingly let them down by losing a close contest to AFG.
With that, India and Afghanistan qualified for the semi-finals from Group 1 of Super 8, leaving Australia and Bangladesh miles behind.
That being said, following an exit from the T20 World Cup, Australian media scrutinised the team as well as ICC for allegedly favouring and pampering India.
The Herald Sun alleged that ICC forced Australia to play back to back night games whereas India played all their Super 8 games in the morning just to suit its viewership in Asia.
Additionally, the Sydney Morning Herald criticised Gulbadin Naib for faking an injury and gaining an unfair advantage that supposedly was against the spirit of cricket.
Fox Cricket and Cricket.com.au went after the Australian side led by Mitchell Marsh for being ordinary in the entire tournament. The media cried for changes in the T20 side while batting for the inclusion of more youngsters.
Having said that, David Warner emptied his spot by retiring from international cricket following the heartbreaking exit. Hence, some changes to the Aussie’s shorter format side are very likely in the near future.
