India Vs Australia 3rd Test Day 1 LIVE Score: The opening day of the third Test between India and Australia saw only 13.2 overs bowled as Brisbane rain took the centre-stage at The Gabba on Saturday. After Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first, the first rain interruption came only after 5.3 overs. Play resumed after 30 minutes before heavy rains came down to stop play once again as the Gabba became a swiming pool despite having a great drainage system.
However, with the rain playing hide and seek througout the day, the umpires decided to call it off after Tea break. To make most of the lost overs from Day 1, play will resume at 5:20 AM IST on all the remaining four days with a minimum of 98 overs to be bowled on each day.
Usman Khwaja (19 batting) and Nathan McSweeney (4 batting) are currently in the crease for Australia as they reached 28/0 at the time rain came down. Earlier, India made two changes, bringing in Akash Deep replacing Harshit Rana while Ravindra Jadeja bolstered the Indian batting by coming in place of Ravichandran Ashwin.
On the other hand, Australia made one change in their playing XI from Adelaide with Josh Hazlewood making his way back from injury, replacing Scott Boland. As rain eases a bit, Gautam Gambhir was seen near the tunnel to observe the umpires’ discussion. The Indian players are on their whites while Rohit Sharma sneaked peaked through the glass door. Meanwhile, the umbrellas are once again in action.
The intensity of rain has minimised but its is still raining. Some India support staff members emerge on the boundary line. Not sure what they are talking about. The covers are still on.

10 minutes to go befire Tea and nothing looks bright at The Gabba at the moment. It’s pretty fair to say that the second session has been washed out. Not likely to to get any more cricket today.
Meanwhile, the floodlights are on at the Gabba. The drainage system at the Gabba is good but it is useless unless the rain stops pouring.
The Gabba looked like a sea on Saturday.
No news yet as when the game will resume today. Meanwhile, Sunil Gavaskar stood by Mohammed Siraj after the latter was booed on Saturday at the Gabba. “Siraj is getting the stick from all the “saints” in Australian cricket who, of course, were known for their impeccable behaviour on the field. It may have incensed Australian fans that Siraj’s fiery send-off was directed at Head, who scored a magnificent century and was also the local boy. But the same people will cheer if an Aussie quick gives a similar send-off to an English batter during next summer’s Ashes. There were some suggestions in the media that the Australians should get back to being the mongrels they once were. So, do mongrels simply purr, or do they bark, too,” Sunil Gavaskar told Sydney Morning Herald.
The wait game continues at The Gabba. For the readers, let me tell you that the overs lost today can be adjusted over the course of the match.
Not so good view of the Gabba at the moment. Day 1 Washout on cards?
