Australia is one of the non-traditional countries that many Indian garment exporters have been drawn to, and many of them, particularly mid-level businesses, are optimistic about this market going forward.
More than fifty Indian apparel exporters recently visited Australia to discuss business prospects and met with a number of buyers. Since they anticipate greater business from Australia, many of them are excited by its prospects.
Aastha Kapoor, Director of Noida-based Affordable Exports informed, “Australia is a major market for small orders. It’s a growing market and from the last 10 years I am getting a good response from here.” She went on to say that regardless of the cause, buyers were enthusiastic and that there were sufficient opportunities to expand both the quantity and size of purchases.
She firmly believes that growing exporters who prefer to work with small orders and relatively easy-to-work-with buyers would find Australia to be a nice option.
The founder of Fitout Pro, a well-known clothing export business with headquarters in Delhi, Sonia Bahl, is likewise quite enthusiastic about the Australian market. Recently, her team visited Australia as well.
She told Apparel Resources, “The rise of fast fashion has had a significant impact on Australian women’s and children’s clothing. As consumers have become increasingly accustomed to the constant churn of new trends and affordable price points, there has been a growing awareness of the environmental and social consequences of this model. Many Australian women and parents of young children have begun to scrutinise and educate their families about shopping habits and are watching their shopping more closely, questioning the true cost of cheap, disposable garments vs quality sustainable garments even if it’s at a little higher cost.”
She went on to say that Australians are beginning to look for sustainable alternatives that put an emphasis on eco-friendly materials, ethical manufacturing, and a more conscientious, waste-free approach to fashion.
